The Catholic Defender, The Power Team remembered whose message today is timeless.

Updated: May 23

They were founded in the late 1970s by John Jacobs and have been virtually in every state and many countries around the world. They have appeared on a number of television programs to include an episode on Walker Texas Ranger with Chuck Norris. I saw their presentation once live and they have a very positive message to encourage people of all ages to be people of integrity, honesty, for the love of God.

These were top athletes who dedicated their lives to encourage young people to stay away from drugs and the abuse of alcohol. to live a life worth living, that they do not have to be the best athletes, but to be the best person that helps those in need where they can. This is not always easy because evil does exist. We can make a difference when we choose to live out Our Catholic Faith to live out the Sacraments. Our message to promote social responsibility, family strengthening, and abstention from drugs and alcohol. As Catholics, we must obtain grace to stay in God's presence if we desire to see His power revealed in and through us.

Sacramental grace is the special supernatural grace received through the valid and fruitful reception of the sacraments. It helps us to live out the particular purpose and effects of each sacrament, according to their unique character. For instance, the grace of baptism helps us live as children of God, while the grace of the Eucharist strengthens our unity with Christ and nourishes our love.

Sacramental graces can be understood as a particular manifestation of God's grace, which is distinct from the general grace that sanctifies and strengthens the soul. They are also distinct from actual graces, which are the help God gives us to perform particular acts of good, as needed.

Each sacrament imparts its own unique grace, tailored to its purpose. For example:

  • Baptism: Grants forgiveness of sins and a new life in Christ.  Baptism: Baptismal grace is a rich reality that includes forgiveness of original sin and all personal sins, birth into the new life by which man becomes an adoptive son of the Father, a member of Christ and a temple of the Holy Spirit.

  • Confirmation: Strengthens faith and courage to witness to the Christian life.

  • Eucharist: Nourishes our spiritual life and strengthens our unity with Christ.  Eucharist: In the Eucharist, sacramental grace helps to overcome our natural self-love, or selfishness.

  • Penance: Helps to heal the wounds of sin and grow in holiness.  Penance and Reconciliation: In Penance, sacramental grace helps to heal the deeper inclinations to evil that actual sins have put in our soul and makes it easier for us to keep out of sin in the future.

  • Anointing of the Sick: Provides strength and healing, both spiritual and physical.

  • Holy Orders: Grants the grace to fulfill the duties of the priesthood.

  • Matrimony: Helps spouses live out their love and commitment to each other.

Sacramental graces are essential for Catholics because they help us grow in holiness, strengthen our relationship with God, and participate more fully in the life of the Church. They are a powerful tool for spiritual growth and transformation.
