The Catholic Defender: Jesus says "I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred one on me," (The Catholic Faith)

This quote comes from Luke 22:29 in the Bible, spoken by Jesus to his Apostles during the Last Supper just hours before his arrest and crucifixion.

The Dispute Over Greatness: Right before Jesus speaks these words, the Apostles argue among themselves about which of them is the greatest.

Redefining Kingship: Jesus corrects their human view of power. He contrasts worldly rulers (who "lord it over" others) with true Christian leadership, which is based on service. Jesus states, "I am among you as the one who serves".

Because the Apostles stayed with Jesus through his trials, he promises to share his divine mission and authority with them: "I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred one on me, that you may eat and drink at my table in mgdom; and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel".

Participation, Not Domination: In Catholic theology, this verse emphasizes that reigning with Christ means serving with Christ. The kingdom is a gift of grace received through faithfulness and union with Jesus, modeled through the Corporal Works of Mercy and humility rather than earthly dominance.
