The Catholic Defender: Pilot Rescue the Easter Miracle, "God is Good"

The "Easter Miracle" refers to the dramatic rescue of a downed U.S. airman in Iran on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. The pilot, an F-15E airman who was shot down on Good Friday, sent the radio message "God is good" as his first communication upon being located.

Based on reports from April 2026, an injured U.S. Air Force weapons officer (pilot) was rescued after a daring 36-hour survival ordeal in the mountains of Iran.

The pilot's F-15E was shot down in hostile territory in southwestern Iran on Friday, April 3, 2026.

Despite being "injured quite badly" (including a sprained ankle) and alone, the officer followed survival training and climbed roughly 7,000 feet into the treacherous Zagros Mountain terrain to evade capture.

The airman hid in a crevice for nearly two days, dodging Iranian forces and militiamen searching for him.

The pilot established contact with the U.S. military, allowing Special Operations forces to rescue him from a ridge in a high-risk mission

After his F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down on Good Friday, the officer (a colonel known by the call sign "Dude Bravo 44") successfully ejected but was seriously injured. His survival involved several critical steps

Despite "bleeding profusely," he used his training to treat his own wounds while evading capture.

He climbed more than a mile into treacherous mountain terrain, eventually reaching a 7,000-foot ridge to improve his chances of transmitting a signal and avoiding Iranian bounty hunters.

He spent roughly 36 hours hiding in a mountain crevice and a cave while thousands of Iranian forces searched for him.

On Easter Sunday, a massive rescue operation involving over 150 aircraft and Navy SEAL Team 6 successfully extracted him from hostile territory.

U.S. Special Operations Forces conducted a high-stakes mission deep into Iranian territory to retrieve the pilot, who had successfully evaded capture for over 24 hours by hiding in caves and crevices.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth reported that when the airman finally activated his emergency transponder, his first words were "God is good".

President Trump hailed the operation as an "Easter miracle," a sentiment echoed by several officials.

Special Operations/Rescue Forces: Specialized teams responsible for the ground extraction, operating in high-risk environments.

Hegseth later drew parallels between the pilot's survival—shot down on Friday, hidden through Saturday, and rescued as the sun rose on Sunday—to the story of the resurrection.

The rescue has been widely celebrated as a testament to the bravery of U.S. troops and the pilot's personal faith.

Based on recent reports regarding the rescue of a downed U.S. airman in Iran (April 2026), the operation involved specialized, high-capability units focused on combat search and rescue (CSAR).

U.S. Air Force Combat Search-and-Rescue (CSAR) Task Force: A specialized, joint-capable force deployed for personnel recovery, which entered Iranian airspace under heavy fire.

A-10 "Sandy" Aircraft: These close-air-support aircraft were critical in the mission, providing ground attack capabilities to protect the downed pilot and guide rescue forces.

HC-130 Refueling Planes: Provided aerial refueling to the rescue assets to extend their range.

HH-60 Jolly Green II Helicopters: Used to insert/extract personnel for the rescue in hostile environments.

Air Combat Command: Coordinated the rescue assets and close air support.

75th Ranger Regiment: Specialized Army Rangers were reportedly part of the ground operation to extricate a stranded airman

160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR): Frequently provides the specialized rotary-wing support for such clandestine "night-stalker" missions into high-threat environments

The New York Times and CBS News reported that the pilot of the aircraft had been rescued earlier on Friday, while the WSO’s rescue was hailed as a "miracle" by officials
