The Catholic Defender: PRAYER FOR SUFFERING SOULS IN PURGATORY

“Let us help and commemorate them. If Job’s sons were purified by their father’s sacrifice, why would we doubt that our offerings for the dead bring them some consolation? Let us not hesitate to help those who have died and to offer our prayers for them.” (CCC 1032)

My Jesus,by the sorrows Thou didst suffer in Thine agony in the Garden,in Thy scourging and crowning with thorns,on the way to Calvary,in Thy crucifixion and death, have mercy on the souls in purgatory, and especially on those that are most forsaken;do Thou deliver them from the terrible torments they endure;call them and admit them to Thy most sweet embrace in paradise.

Amen.

O Jesus, I understand that Your mercy is beyond all imagining.I ask You, therefore, to make my heart so bigthat there will be room in it for the needsof all the souls living on this whole earthly globe.

O Jesus, my love reaches beyond the worldto the souls suffering in Purgatory, and I want to exercise mercy toward themby means of indulgenced prayers. Prayer to Have a Merciful Heart Towards Others by Saint Faustina

God’s mercy is unfathomable and inexhaustible, just as God Himself is unfathomable. Were I to use the strongest words for expressing this mercy of God,they are nothing in comparison with what it is in reality.

O Jesus, make my heart sensitive to all the sufferingsof my neighbor whether they be of body or of soul.O my Jesus, I know that You act toward us as we act toward our neighbor.

My Jesus, make my heart like unto Your merciful Heart.Jesus, help me to go through life doing good to everyone.

Amen.

V. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.R. And let the perpetual light shine upon them.

And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
