Knock is a village in County Mayo, Ireland, globally renowned as a major Catholic pilgrimage site. It is primarily known for theKnock Shrine, where 15 people reported an apparition of the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and Saint John the Evangelist in 1879.
The "miracle at Knock" refers to a unique, silent apparition of the irgin Mary, St. Joseph St. John the Evangelist , and a Lamb on an altar, which occurred in the small village of Knock, County Mayo, Ireland, on the evening of August 21, 1879.
On the evening of the 21st of August 1879, a heavenly Apparition occurred at the gable wall of the Parish Church when Our Lady appeared, in the company of St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist.
On a rainy evening, witnesses saw the apparitions, along with an altar, a cross, and a lamb, bathed in light. While rain fell, the area of the apparition remained dry.
Fifteen individuals, ranging from ages 5 to 74, saw the vision and testified to its authenticity to a Commission of Enquiry in 1879, which found their testimonies to be "trustworthy and satisfactory". 15 official witnesses saw the vision, ranging in age from a 5-year-old boy to a 74-year-old woman. They stood in the pouring rain, reciting the Rosary.
The Atmospheric Miracle: Witnesses noted that despite the torrential downpour, the gable wall and the ground directly beneath the figures remained perfectly dry.
The vision appeared on the south gable wall of the parish church during a heavy rainstorm. Unlike other famous apparitions, the figures at Knock were completely silent and did not deliver a verbal message.
The apparition lasted for about two hours in the fading evening light.

The Virgin Mary: Dressed in white robes with a brilliant golden crown. She was described as being deep in prayer, with her eyes raised toward heaven and her hands held open at shoulder height.
St. Joseph : Stood to Mary’s right, wearing white robes with his head bowed respectfully toward her.
St. John the Evangelist : Positioned to Mary’s left, wearing a bishop’s mitre and holding an open book. He appeared to be preaching, with his right hand raised.
The Altar and the Lamb: Behind the figures stood a plain altar with a Lamb (symbolizing Jesus) standing in front of a cross, surrounded by hovering angels.
Following the event, hundreds reported cures, including early accounts of a deaf girl being healed.
The first recorded miracle occurred just 10 days after the apparition, when a young girl, Delia Gordon, was instantly cured of deafness after her mother applied a piece of cement from the church wall to her ear.
By the end of 1880, over 300 to 600 cures had been documented by the local parish priest.
In 2019, the Church officially recognized the 1989 healing of Marion Carroll, who was cured of multiple sclerosis at the shrine.
