The Catholic Defender Supports Ken Selzer CPA for County Commission Chair


Ken Selzer is a Certified Public Accountant who has achieved remarkable success in both the private and public sectors. Ken has served as an Executive Managing Director for Aon, an international insurance services firm, and has also served as the elected Kansas Insurance Commissioner. Ken currently works with a number of business boards and councils, including the K-State Business School Advisory Council. He is a member of the K-State Accounting Hall of Fame.


Ken Selzer was elected and served as the Kansas Insurance Commissioner from 2015-2019. Ken’s leadership emphasized competitiveness in the Kansas insurance market, cut red tape to encourage new insurance providers, reduced costs, and created innovative programs to bring additional employees to the insurance industry benefitting businesses and especially individual consumers. Ken’s management resulted in reduced overhead, greater efficiency and increased services to Kansas residents. Under Ken’s leadership the department received national recognition for its transparency and customer service.


Ken Selzer knows the importance of community and people to the success of any enterprise. This is true in business or achieving a strong, educated, and safe county in which we live, work and raise our families. Ken’s philanthropy supports and advances the quality of life for his neighbors and the Johnson County community, donating countless hours and resources to area organizations, including the Leawood Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the CF Shoot for the Cure, Leawood Rotary and its community programs, the Educational Foundation for the Blue Valley School District and the Olathe School District, and other charitable and civic projects throughout Johnson County.

Ken Selzer knows the importance of top quality education and that a successful future starts both in the home as well as in the classrooms of our local schools. Knowing his own success began with the influence of caring teachers and effective schools, Ken and his wife Deb share their own success with area schools through their sponsorship of college scholarships for graduates, Innovative Teacher Awards, and scholarships to support students aging out of the foster care system. Ken has been recognized as a member of the Blue Valley Educational Foundation Hall of Fame, and serves on the Kansas State University Foundation Board of Trustees.
