As of March 2026, the 1944 apparitions of Our Lady of Ghiaie di Bonate have received partial authorization for devotion, but they are not fully approved as supernatural by the Catholic Church.

The status of the apparitions has evolved through several key stages

Following a 1948 investigation, Bishop Adriano Bernareggi issued a "non constat" decree, stating that the supernatural nature of the events was not established. All forms of public devotion related to the apparitions were strictly forbidden at that time.

Authorization for Faith Expression (2002): Bishop Roberto Amadei of Bergamo began a process of "rehabilitation," allowing for a more open expression of faith at the site, though the events themselves remained unproven.

Official Authorization of Devotion (2019): In a significant reversal, Bishop Francesco Beschi officially authorized and valued the cult of "Mary Queen of the Family" at the parish chapel. This decision, made at the behest of the Vatican, erased the 1948 ban on devotion.

Current Status (2024-2026): While public devotion and pilgrimages are now permitted and encouraged, the Church still maintains a "non constat" position on the apparitions themselves, meaning they are considered unproven but not definitively rejected as false.

Adelaide Roncalli, who was 7 years old at the time. 13 reported apparitions occurred between May 13 and May 31, 1944.

Our Lady is often referred to as "Mary Queen of the Family" or "Mother of Unity and Queen of Peace".

"Mary, Queen of the Family" (Latin: Regina Familiae) is a title for the Virgin Mary formally introduced into the Litany of Loreto by Pope Saint John Paul II on December 31, 1995. This title honors Mary not just as the Queen of Heaven, but as a mother and wife who directly understands the challenges and joys of daily family

The title highlights Mary's role as the protector and model for the "domestic church"—the family unit where faith is first taught and lived.

Mary is seen as the ideal mother and spouse, exemplifying faith, patience, and unconditional love within the Holy Family of Nazareth.

Families often turn to her under this title to ask for her guidance in times of division, struggle, or spiritual dryness.

While "Queen of Heaven" can feel distant, "Queen of the Family" emphasizes her human experience of raising a child and managing a household alongside St. Joseph.

Family Prayer: Reciting the Rosary together as a family is considered the most powerful way to seek her intercession.

Families may place a statue or image of Mary in a prominent location as a sign of her "reign" over their home and a reminder to put Jesus at the center of their lives.
