Both St. Peter Damian and St. Alphonsus Liguori were direct witnesses to significant Eucharistic miracles in Italy that verified the Real Presence of Christ.
In the year 1050, St. Peter Damian personally witnessed and recorded a miracle involving a attempted sacrilege.
Italy (often associated with the Hermitage of Fonte Avellana).
A woman, influenced by a sorceress, stole a consecrated Host during Mass by hiding it in a handkerchief.
A priest noticed the theft and intercepted her. When she opened the handkerchief, the Host had visibly transformed: one half had become bleeding Flesh, while the other half retained the appearance of bread.
St. Peter Damian noted this "clear testimony" was a divine sign to combat disbelief and heresy regarding transubstantiation.
St. Alphonsus Liguori: The 1732 Miracle of Scala

St. Alphonsus Liguori, founder of the Redemptorists, witnessed a prolonged miraculous apparition in 1732.
Monastery of the Most Holy Redeemer in Scala, Italy.
During the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for public adoration, the signs of Christ’s Passion (such as the cross, crown of thorns, and nails) appeared within the consecrated Host.
The Witnesses: These apparitions occurred for more than three consecutive months. They were confirmed by St. Alphonsus, the local Bishop Santoro, the Bishop of Castellamare, and the nuns of the monastery.
The miracle occurred shortly after the founding of the Redemptorist Order, serving as a powerful spiritual confirmation of its mission.
