The Catholic Defender: Prayer for Choirs singing at the Holy Mass

Dear Lord: Please watch over each member of our choir and help us to never forget that you are the center of our lives. With the many temptations at our disposal, it is so easy to stray off center. tolerant when choral mistakes are made.

Grant that we who praise Thee may be united by Thy Holy Spirit in a bond of love that with one mouth and one heart we might praise, bless, and worship Thee, the Light above all Lights, the True Life, and the Salvation of our souls.

Heavenly Father, In the midst of our busy lives and distractions, we gather here to practice and sing your praises. Please grant us the focus and concentration we need to make the most of this time. Let our minds be clear, our voices steady, and our hearts dedicated to the music and the message it carries.

Grant to them humbleness of mind, unity of purpose, harmony in song and spirit, diligence in attention and self-correction, freedom from vanity and pride, unfeigned obedience to the tradition of the Church and Her appointed pastors, and sincere love for the sacred texts and hymns of the divine services,

Therefore, when the church is worshiping God by the act of singing, there is teaching and admonishing one another taking place. Colossians 3:16 clearly teaches congregational singing!

Colossians 3 and Ephesians 5 bring this out simply but powerfully, telling us to sing “to God” and “to the Lord” because he is the object of our praise. Ephesians 5:19 says, “singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.” It is to him and about him that we sing!
