Primarily fire represents the presence of God, as when Moses encountered God at the burning bush, and later when God appeared in a pillar of fire to lead his people in the wilderness (Exodus 3:2; 13:21). In Acts, the tongues of fire represent the presence of God the Holy Spirit.

Putting more energy than it is required to do it, yet not in our own strength, but that which comes from God.

Scripture says that our Lord, Jesus Christ, spoke to Moses from a burning bush. But, like the Three Youths, the bush was not consumed by the divinity of God. It was another image of Mary – another way to understand how God was united with humanity in the Virgin's womb!

Other symbols associated with Mary's heart include: 

• Sword: Represents Mary's sorrow over Jesus' suffering 

• Roses: Symbolizes Mary's purity, sinlessness, and Immaculate Conception 

• Cross: On top of the heart, symbolizes Christ's redemptive work on the cross 

• Light: Surrounding the heart, symbolizes the divine light that shines in the world's darkness 

The Virgin Mary is also associated with the burning bush, a passage in the Old Testament. Some interpret the passage as a figure of Mary's divine maternity, because Mary bears the fire of God in her heart.
