The Catholic Defender: Bible Prophecy Vs Climate Change

With the upcoming Presidential Election around the corner, the Democrats are proclaiming that the recent fires in California are due to climate change. Is this climate change due to man's usage of the earths resources or is there another reason? The Bible teaches that sin has an effect on nature. Recently on Fox News there was a news story related to animal violence, a mountain lion in the South Western United States had attacked a couple of young boys playing in the front yard. The far left liberals were attributing the recent animal attacks on global warming, or climate change.

The Bible gives several signs we are to watch for concerning the time of the end before Jesus returns. The roaring of the waves, earthquakes, disease, apostasy, moral decay, violence, rebellion, homosexuality, attacks on marriage, war, disobedience, self-centeredness, increase of knowledge, Atheism just to name some of the major ones.

These things in and of themselves have been a part of human history, it is the increase and magnitude of all these signs taking place everywhere.

At first I thought about it and felt that if there was an increase of such attacks, would it be because of civilization crowding out the wild in the wilderness?

As I pondered on the happening, I recalled a bible prophecy connected with animal attacks. Revelation 6:8 states, " And I saw, and behold, a pale horse, and its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him; and they were given power over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth."

Now that seems very interesting to me because this scripture is clearly talking about attacks taking place by wild beasts. As a result of the fall of mankind, nature itself has been affected. Sin has a consequence. Leviticus 26:21-22 states, "Then if you walk contrary to me, and will not hearken to me, I will bring more plagues upon you, seven fold as many as your sins. And I will let loose the wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number, so that your ways shall become desolate."

Notice the warning God makes to those who rebel against His word? For those who want to blame climate change for any animal eruptions, maybe they have a point, but not for what they proclaim. The liberals want to pursue a means to regulate the air we breathe, the energy we have, just about everything you can imagine. Some of it is good as we should be good stewards of the earth, we should take care of nature, but the politics have become so binding, there is no growth.

I would encourage people to not sin and live a graceful, faithful life because sin has much more to do with what is going on than climate change. The roaring of the oceans and hurricanes are another example. Luke 21_25-27 states, "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory."

In the Old Testament, 2 Kings 2:23-24 tells about Elisha cursing some boys because they were making fun of his bald head, "He (Elisha) went up from there to Bethel; and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, "Go up, you bald head! Go up, you bald head!" And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys."

That may seem very harsh, but it tells of the power of words, the power of rebellion and life under the curse. The violence seen at Orlando Florida is part of the consequence of a fallen nature. People will bring about terrible violence through free will. Sin has it's consequence. What should matter to all is the state of our lives whenever time ends for us. Are we ready?

Sadly, many Americans today have lost faith, spiritually, they are like those making fun of Elisha, they are mocking Religion, they are mocking God. What we are teaching today in public schools and our colleges is filled with rebellion. A place we do not want to be when God does respond (2 Chronicles 7:19-22).

President Obama in his eight years declared that the greatest threat against national security is climate change. This despite the past two decades the earth has remained about the same, even cooling down some.

Yet, during Obama's Administration, sin continues to abound in greater detail. The rise of pornography, abortion, fornication, sodomy, violence, stealing, all the Mortal sins St. Paul warns about seems to be happening.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 states, "But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of stress. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, fierce, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding the form of religion but denying the power of it." This is like reading an everyday newspaper just about anywhere.

Ezekiel 14:21 states, "For thus says the Lord GOD: How much more when I send upon Jerusalem my four sore acts of judgment, sword, famine, evil beasts, and pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!"

Just do a Google search on animal attacks and you will find all kinds of examples where animal attacks are taking place in the wild. I almost expect that as civilization takes tames the wilderness with internet, concrete and steel, and people. There are many examples I can share here but my purpose really is to ponder the cause of "climate change" is it because of man's abuse of technology and civilization, or is it because the earth is affected by sin and a fallen nature.

We have seen a lot of examples of plagues, famine, and pestilence as promised by the coming of the pale horse. Is this issue of animals attacking humans part of climate change? Are animal attacks a true sign of judgement as written in the bible? The answer will always be centered on Jesus because all that we are comes from Him. I hope we begin listening and turning to the good Lord who calls us by Grace to serve Him.

Nobody knows the day and hour but these signs are to be watched, President Trump and many others are doing great things to turn things around, we are still living in the age of grace. We continue to seek the Lord while He is able to still be found.

We are in the Age of Grace and this is a great opportunity to make sure our path is straight, to walk in the Light of the Lord in the midst of chaos. The question now should be asked: Is the Fires in California and the Hurricanes along with animal attacks due to climate change or due to sin, a rebellious world?

For those of you who do love your pets and care about animals, this verse should give peace, "The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them.7 The cow and the bear shall feed; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.8 The sucking child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.9 They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea." Isaiah 11:6-9
