The Catholic Defender: Pinch of Salt How to season the World Around You!

“You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."

A Pinch of Salt is an example of being a seed planter when the opportunity comes your way. It is fantastic when you have the opportunity to Sponsor someone into the Catholic Faith. That is very important to be in service to help those investigating the Church. It is a journey that we take with converts and many times I have heard people grow in their faith by being a Sponsor.

However, to be a seed planter, you might find yourself talking with someone who might not have been to Mass in many years, you might meet someone who has not received any of the Sacraments for a long time. You might find yourself talking to someone who has left the Church and joined another. There are a thousand situation you can come across. Most of these times you might run into someone in a chance meeting that occurs only one time.

Recently I took my cat into a local pet store that does clean up and cuts fir and as I was waiting for my cat, I met a lady in the parking lot. Striking up a conversation with her, she was raised a Catholic from Mexico but today she was following a Non-Denominational group. She apparently married into it. After five minutes I was able to share why the Catholic Faith was and is the true Church. She had issues with Saints and I was able to explain the Churches position and the importance. All I could do was to offer a Pinch of Salt and hope that the seed planted would take root.

Recently while at the gym working out I met a couple of guys who were riding stationary bikes and I struck up a conversation with them. One of them was a non-practicing Catholic who recently finished College. I encouraged him to make the Mass the center of his life and the importance of going to Confession. He had basically caved into a nominational state that breeds indifferentism. I was able to share with them a solid explanation for the Catholic Faith. Unfortunately we do not hear enough of this in public. All I could do was to offer a Pinch of Salt and hope that the seed planted would take root.

Recently while at a local grocery store (Price Choppers) I was in the produce section when a Gentleman came up to me and said something positive about President Trump. We began talking about what is happening to America and the subject of Religion popped up. He was Lutheran (Missouri Synod) and a conservative. I was able to share the Catholic Faith and it was a good exchange. Not sure if I will seen him again, but I was able to share with him a Pinch of Salt as the Catholic Faith is the true faith.

I often find myself with such opportunities almost daily. If you want to be wise, leading people to Christ through His Holy Catholic Church is the answer.

1 Corinthians 3:8-16 states, "The one who plants and the one who waters are equal, and each will receive wages in proportion to his labor. For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it. But each one must be careful how he builds upon it, for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, the work of each will come to light, for the Day* will disclose it. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire [itself] will test the quality of each one’s work. If the work stands that someone built upon the foundation, that person will receive a wage. But if someone’s work is burned up, that one will suffer loss; the person will be saved, but only as through fire. Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"

Consider this! If 1% of fallen away Catholics would consider returning to their Catholic Faith through a simple invitation, a simple Pinch of Salt, we are talking about millions of people. Fallen Away Catholics today as a whole would be the second largest group in the United States. The Catholic Church itself would be the largest. That can be deceiving if we look into how strong many of them are? We need a lot of Salt to cover what we have. A Pinch of Salt in some situation might have a lasting root, we should be open when we see an opportunity. Souls depend on it.

I am going to share a video of the great Rich Mullins whose conversion to the Catholic Faith was due in part because he received a Pinch of Salt that lead him to the Faith. Ordinary people can do extra-ordinary things when the Lord gives you an opportunity. Pray for the Prodigals to come home. How wonderful it would be through your Pinch of Salt.
