The Catholic Defender: What is Happening to the National Football League?

I woke up this morning ready for a great day to get some things done around the house, get my car fixed, pray the Rosary/Divine Mercy, when on the news a report about Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes came on the radio. The report concerned me because Mahomes was supporting Black Lives Matter. I question whether this support was simply an agreement with nearly 100% of the country who was disgusted with the fate of George Floyd, or was it the BLM organization?

I think many people gave appropriate peaceful protest over what happened. But there are some who still are pushing criminal behavior taking George Floyd out of the discussion long ago. I believe the vast amount of people protesting the Minneapolis police department, especially four police officers, are not supportive of the Communist, Marxist, Socialist BLM organization. Something that is missed about this situation is that the problem in Minnesota is that the individuals involved with the death of George Floyd were Democrats, the Police Chief is Democrat, the Mayor is Democrat, and the Governor is Democrat. Yet, somehow the Republicans are at fault? Consider the major problems happening in major cities are run by Democrats?

I think that the debate is more centered on the current protest over the United States Military, the American Flag, and our National Anthem. I read an interesting article written by Marlin Oliver Briscoe who played Quarterback for the Denver Broncos in 1968. He was talking about what it was like playing in the NFL at the time and it was a good article until you reached the end of it. Briscoe let the cat out of the bag of his dislike towards President Trump? The same message as what I received from a BLM speaker at a rally in Gardner Kansas? They see President Trump as a Hitler figure pushing a false image that Trump is a racist?

This is where my concern for Patrick Mahomes comes in. He has been out promoting people to register to vote which is a great thing, but if he is promoting Biden over Trump because of the confusion that BLM is putting forth, that is a problem. This is becoming an agenda rather than a valid truth position. If there is anything "racism" in the NFL, like Patrick Mahomes, I would agree 100% to work that out of the game. However, if you think that people who disagree with you are a racist, that is a problem?

The past few years, the NFL has allowed players to disrespect the military, the American Flag, and the National Anthem. The NFL lost a lot of revenue as a result of this public protest where families come to enjoy football. If Patrick Mahomes and others are calling you a racist because you believe it is respecting our country by honoring the troops, the Flag, and the Anthem, there is really no middle ground to this.

The NFL has given a great financial benefit to players whose first love should be for the love of the game. Politics should not be a part of that. It is important to be involved in politics on a personal level and there are great ways we can promote and support our candidates without it interfering with our jobs. I am political just about every time I go to the grocery store or meet someone in conversation or when I am on the radio. The BLM have been trying to redefine what a protest is, they have particular demands that as a Christian, I could never accept. What the BLM movement has done to Professional Basketball this year, their total disrespect to their country, I will not watch a game until they correct this horrible display. I grew up loving basketball, but God comes first.

Patrick Mahomes, when you say you agree or back BLM, you need to be careful in what you mean? Are you talking about the perceived majority of people who protested the murder of George Floyd? We are on the same team! Nothing George Floyd did deserved what happened to him!

Or are you saying you support the movement of BLM coming from their organization? That is my concern. If so, I will support you on the field, but oppose you in this misguided support of BLM

Consider some thoughts about BLM as an organization:

The Abortion industry targets minorities beginning with Margaret Sanger who pushed contraception and Abortion with the purpose to diminish the Black population. Sanger believed Black people were an inferior race. Unfortunately, many mistakenly see her as a heroine by even minorities. 79% of Planned Parenthood's Abortion Mills are located within walking distance of minority communities and white women are five times less likely to have an abortion than Black women. Since 1973 with the Roe V Wade Supreme Court decision, there have been over 19,000,000 Black babies killed by Abortion.

I do not see BLM out there protesting against Planned Parenthood for killing innocent Black Babies. In fact it is the opposite? One of the BLM demands call for "free abortion for minors (without specifying a minimum age).

Patrick Mahomes, one of my reason voting against Biden is his promise to do away with the Hyde Amendment? That Amendment protects medical professionals such as nurses and doctors from being forced to do Abortions against their faith. That would force Christian Hospitals to perform Abortions. Many will close down because they would not participate in this slaughter of the unborn.

BLM is calling for a constitutional right at the state and federal level to a fully-funded education which includes a clear articulation of the right to: a free education for all, special protections for queer and trans students, wrap around services, social workers, free health services (including reproductive body autonomy), a curriculum that acknowledges and addresses students’ material and cultural needs, physical activity and recreation, high quality food, free daycare, and freedom from unwarranted search, seizure or arrest."

BLM co-founder Opal Tometi told The New Yorker, “When we started Black Lives Matter, it wasn’t solely about police brutality and extrajudicial killing,” The movement intent was to begin “calling for the defunding of police, a moratorium on rent, a moratorium on mortgages and utilities” and issuing “demands” relating to “housing and education and health-care systems.” “And so we seek not reform but transformation.” BLM demands “defund the police.” An “end” to arrests of any black students, “an end to all jails, detention centers, youth facilities and prisons as we know them.”

BLM demands they want “full and free access for all Black people (including undocumented and currently and formerly incarcerated people) to lifetime education” They want to go to any college with “retroactive forgiveness of student loans.”

BLM demands “allow access to gender affirming surgeries” BLM seeks to identify with "liberation movements around the world.”

BLM demands "We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable."

BLM demands that drug dealers “must be invested into reparations to all people who have been adversely impacted by the drug war and enforcement of prostitution laws."

BLM demands "preregistration for 16-year-olds, enfranchisement of formerly and currently incarcerated people, local and state resident voting for undocumented people, and a ban on all disenfranchisement laws.”

From the BLM's own messages, these are basic areas of concern:

-Reparations through racial socialism

-Replacing education with agitprop and welfare services

-Defunding the police and ending prisons

-Dismantling the family

-Start a “global liberation movement” to overthrow capitalism

-Higher taxes, with a specifically racial focus

-Reparations for drug dealers

-Reparations for foreign nations and terrorist states

-Let incarcerated prisoners, illegal immigrants, and felons vote

That is a lot to chew, I can't help recalling Drew Brees making a proclamation, " I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country, When seeing the flag during the anthem, I envision my two grandfathers who fought for this country during World War II — one in the Army and one in the Marine Corps. Both risking their lives to protect our country and to try to make our country and this world a better place. So every time I stand with my hand over my heart looking at that flag and singing the national anthem, that's what I think about. And in many cases, it brings me to tears thinking about all that has been sacrificed."

Patrick Mahomes, can you really understand what Drew Brees was actually saying? Or are you like a parrot that continue to support BLM in their call disrespecting the Troops, the Flag, the Anthem?

Yet, after being pressured by his colleagues, Brees reversed himself. The sad reality is that about 4% of Americans have had some military influence either by serving in the Armed forces or a family member. That means about 96% of Americans have little or no thought about it. I see this as a major problem because people do not realize the importance of our country remaining free and our Constitution strong. There is no loyalty. Our National Basketball Association seems to have more loyalty to China than America?

I have been a Kansas City Chiefs fan going back to 1963 when they first came to Kansas City from Dallas! I was here when we lost the first Superbowl, when we won the fourth Superbowl, went through 49 years of disappointment until this last year! The Chiefs have been my team practically my whole life! But my faith is the most important thing and our Country is so vital. Where there is racism, yes, let's end that where it is found! But also let us be thankful we are Americans! There is no greater place to be, we do not need to forsake our way of life!
