The Catholic Defender: You Can Vote In Socialism, To Rid yourselves would be Civil War.

Recently, I've had several people warn me that "America can vote in Socialism" (based on the current Democrats seeking to defeat President Trump), but to reverse Socialism would cause a civil war?

The concern for many is that our higher places of learning have been pushing a Socialistic agenda for years.

As a result, 43% of Americans believe Socialism would be a good thing for the country. This is largely due to those being taught Socialism in American colleges across the United States. I remember the 1984 movie "Red Dawn" that focused on an invasion by the Cubans. Americans were forced into these "Concentration - reeducation camps" to reprogram people. Today, these camps came from no external enemy but from within.

About 51% believe socialism would be a bad thing for the country, primarily those of the older community. How has America shifted on Socialism:

In 1942, about 25% of Americans viewed Socialism as a good thing, today that has grown to the 43% number. College Professors today many were part of the 1970's protesting the Vietnam War and many of the norms of American life.

According to recent Gallup polling since 2010, Democrats today are more positive about Socialism finding 57% of Democrats put their faith in Government over the free market. This has become for many Democrats a world outlook wanting to vote in these kind of beliefs on our economy as well as morals.

Politically speaking, American Conservatives and Independent voters prefer the free market as the principle means that delivers freedoms for America values given by our Constitution. 47% of Democrats have no problem voting for a presidential candidate who is pushing a Socialist Agenda.

The real danger that Socialism is presenting itself in gaining support for Government intervention as opposed to the free market concerns personal freedom given in the U.S. Constitution.

Americans voting in Socialism will surrender American Sovereignty to a ruling class. When the Government becomes the main authority, the people sacrifice freedom. We see this in the area of Religion, the right to practice faith in America. We see Socialism in conflict with the U.S Constitution especially the 1st and 2nd Amendments covering free speech and the right to bear arms.

Family life is greatly affected, even the developing arguments of what a family is. In the Democrat Socialism being promoted today, there are no moral absolutes, the Supreme Court has been used buy the Democrats to further their agendas even when they lose the major elections.

When you take a quick look into the world of politics in the United States, there are strong disagreements in just about every corner at the kitchen table. The family traditions in basic American culture is under attack from celebrating Christmas to Thanksgiving, from going to the Church to honoring our Military, Flag, and National Anthem.

Sanctuary cities, open boarders, free health care for illegal Aliens are among the majority of Democrats talking points to include Health Care for all also known as "Single Payer" insurance, Gay Marriage, the liberal courts, on and on it goes.

In truth, Socialism where ever it has been tried has failed each and every society where imposed. Venezuela is a typical recent example. In 1962 Venezuela was among OPEC and one of the richest nations in the world. When Socialism was forced on the people, today they are literally eating their pets. They are very poor, and because the Government took all the peoples guns, there is no resistance.

Mark J. Perry, a noted scholar on this subject, from his article "Why Socialism Failed" appearing in the publication "The Freeman", gave four reasons why:

1. Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery.

In the same way that a Ponzi scheme or chain letter initially succeeds but eventually collapses, socialism may show early signs of success. But any accomplishments quickly fade as the fundamental deficiencies of central planning emerge. It is the initial illusion of success that gives government intervention its pernicious, seductive appeal. In the long run, socialism has always proven to be a formula for tyranny and misery.

A pyramid scheme is ultimately unsustainable because it is based on faulty principles. Likewise, collectivism is unsustainable in the long run because it is a flawed theory. Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives.

In a capitalist economy, incentives are of the utmost importance. Market prices, the profit-and-loss system of accounting, and private property rights provide an efficient, interrelated system of incentives to guide and direct economic behavior. Capitalism is based on the theory that incentives matter!

Under socialism, incentives either play a minimal role or are ignored totally. A centrally planned economy without market prices or profits, where property is owned by the state, is a system without an effective incentive mechanism to direct economic activity. By failing to emphasize incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail. Socialism is based on the theory that incentives don’t matter!

2. The strength of capitalism can be attributed to an incentive structure based upon the three Ps: (1) prices determined by market forces, (2) a profit-and-loss system of accounting and (3) private property rights. The failure of socialism can be traced to its neglect of these three incentive-enhancing components.

3. By their failure to foster, promote, and nurture the potential of their people through incentive-enhancing institutions, centrally planned economies deprive the human spirit of full development. Socialism fails because it kills and destroys the human spirit–just ask the people leaving Cuba in homemade rafts and boats [and those waiting in long lines today in Venezuela struggling, and often failing, to buy food].

4. The temptress of socialism is constantly luring us with the offer: “give up a little of your freedom and I will give you a little more security.” As the experience of this century has demonstrated, the bargain is tempting but never pays off. We end up losing both our freedom and our security.

Socialism will remain a constant temptation. We must be vigilant in our fight against socialism not only around the globe but also here in the United States.

The failure of socialism inspired a worldwide renaissance of freedom and liberty. For the first time in the history of the world, the day is coming very soon when a majority of the people in the world will live in free societies or societies rapidly moving toward freedom.

Capitalism will play a major role in the global revival of liberty and prosperity because it nurtures the human spirit, inspires human creativity, and promotes the spirit of enterprise. By providing a powerful system of incentives that promote thrift, hard work, and efficiency, capitalism creates wealth.

The main difference between capitalism and socialism is this: Capitalism works.

It is important that when we consider this years vote, to consider all these details defending freedom. If America falls, where else will the bastion of freedom ring?
